Supervalu Banners Extend Pharmacy Services to Express Scripts Clients

Food and pharmacy chains Shop ‘N Save and Jewel-Osco and welcoming patients with Express Scripts prescription plans that will no longer be accepted by Walgreens as of Jan. 1, 2012.

“Many Express Scripts  patients may be concerned that they will not have a pharmacy to fill their prescriptions at the start of the new year,” noted Chris Basler, pharmacy district manager at the Kirkwood, Mo.-based wholly owned subsidiary of Supervalu in Minneapolis. “We want these patients to know that we welcome the opportunity to serve them and that, with 34 pharmacies, Shop ‘N Save has the resources to meet their needs.”

Itasca, Ill.-based Jewel-Osco, also owned by Supervalu, operates 173 pharmacies.

The retailers recommend that Express Scripts customers transfer their prescriptions as soon as possible, before they’re actually needed. Calling in advance will give the chains time to add new prescriptions to their files, so pharmacists can have the medication ready when customers need it. To help manage the increased patient volume, both banners will hire more pharmacy associates and make other adjustments as necessary.
