Tops Becomes a ‘Big Wheel’ for Cancer Aid

Tops Markets LLC is boosting its support for Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) by enlisting as a “Big Wheel” sponsor for The Ride For Roswell 2014, a bicycling event scheduled for Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. The Ride For Roswell focuses on raising funds for cancer research, as well as promoting health and wellness.

The new sponsorship considerably extends Tops’ existing support for RPCI. The grocer is already well known for its annual Run/Walk for Roswell, an event held each August in the grocer’s hometown of Williamsville, N.Y., to raise funds through RCPI’s “Team Cure Challenge” program. Over the past six years, the event has raised more than $625,000, aided by RPCI, the local community, vendor partners and Tops associates.

Pedaling For Dollars

“[W]e truly believe in the mission of Roswell and the work that the team at RPCI does every day,” said Frank Curci, president and CEO of Tops.

“At any time, any one of our 15,000 associates or their family members may need to look to Roswell Park for help,” noted Curci. “There is great comfort in knowing that we have some of the best doctors, scientists and researchers in the country, right here in our backyard.”

Tops’ “energy, enthusiasm and generous support will continue to make an important difference in our mission to understand, prevent and cure cancer,” said Dr. Donald L. Trump, president and CEO of Buffalo, N.Y.-based RPCI.

As part of its expanded sponsorship, the grocer will have a Tops Markets Ride For Roswell team and offer consumers $5 off Ride For Roswell registration if they use the discount code tops2014.

Tops operates 159 supermarkets – 154 company-owned and five franchise locations -- under the Tops, Grand Union and Bryant’s banners employing more than 15,000 associates in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont.
