Tops Establishes Local Hospital’s Mother-Baby Unit

Tops Markets LLC has donated $2.5 million to establish the Tops Friendly Markets Mother-Baby Unit in the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, in its home market of Buffalo, N.Y.

“Generations of families who will have their babies delivered at the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital can thank Tops Friendly Markets for its ongoing and incredibly generous support that now includes the Mother-Baby Unit for new mothers and their newborns to be admitted immediately following birth,” said Gill Farkash, M.D., clinical chief, OB/GYN services, Kaleida Health. “While our physicians, nurses and all other staff ensure these families receive the best possible care available, Tops Friendly Markets has ensured they will also enjoy the most state-of-the-art facilities possible.”

The donation was just the latest example of Tops’ longstanding support for Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. Past support has included funds raised through the Tops Charity Golf Outing, Tops Free Gas & Groceries in support of the annual Festival of Trees, the Teddy Bear campaign and the KISS Cares for Kids Radiothon. The Tops Friendly Markets Ambulatory Care Center is among the many areas of the hospital that the Williamsville, N.Y.-based grocer has backed throughout the years.

“[T]he John R. Oishei Hospital [is] a facility that will provide the highest-quality women and children’s health care in western New York and beyond,” said Tops president and CEO Frank Curci. “We are committed to improving the quality of life of the people within our communities, and by making this donation we are investing in the health of future generations.”

Employing more than 15,000 associates, Tops operates 159 full-service supermarkets: 154 company-owned and five franchise locations under the Tops, Grand Union and Bryant’s banners in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont.
