United Donates 30K Meals to South Plains Food Bank

United Supermarkets, LLC recently teamed up with the South Plains Food Bank to “Wreck Hunger” by hosting a 30-hour, tailgate-themed food drive at its 9th and Quaker Market Street location. Almost 30,000 meals were donated to the food bank in result of the drive, and United donated an additional $25,000.

“We were aiming to collect 7,500 pounds during the drive, but we ended up with almost four times that amount,” said Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United. “We are so grateful for the generosity of all the community volunteers and Texas Tech students who helped make this food drive a huge success.”

Texas Tech athletic coaches, including head football coach Kliff Kingsbury, Raider Red, the Masked Rider and other local celebrities made special appearances throughout the drive, which was held in recognition of the South Plains Food Bank's 30th anniversary.

“South Plains Food Bank provides not only food, but also hope for families in need in West Texas,” added Crews. “The food bank is so important to our community and we are honored to partner with them for another successful food drive.”

Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets operates 57 stores under four brands: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express, along with subsidiary operations R.C. Taylor Distributing, Praters and Llano Logistics.
