United Supermarkets Deploys Solutran SPIN Technology

Regional grocer United Supermarkets has completed its implementation of SPIN, a POS and imaging network solution for electronic check conversion from Minneapolis-based Solutran Inc.

"[The] primary factors in choosing SPIN were reducing check processing costs, as well as getting checks deposited and returned faster," said Mandy Tomlin, United Supermarkets' controller. "Solutran was extremely patient as we worked through the business check and various other rollout issues, and has been very responsive getting us any report or data that we request."

United joins more than 12,500 retailers that have used SPIN technology, according to the tech firm.

Unlike traditional BOC (Back Office Conversion), the check imaging, archiving and destruction services featured with SPIN are outsourced to Solutran, and the MICR data capture saves costs by using existing infrastructure.

Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets operates 50 stores in 30 cities located across western and northern Texas, offering three distinct banners: United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos United.
