Wegmans Applauds High School Musical

Bill Congdon, New England division manager for Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets, made a special visit this week to the drama class at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, Mass., to thank the students for their recent performance of the original play “Wegmans … the Musical”.

As well as bringing bagels, cream cheese, doughnuts and juice, Congdon presented a surprise one-time scholarship certificate of $1,000. “The students did such a fantastic job of learning about our company, observing what we do, and then telling the story on stage,” he explained. “We wanted them to know that we appreciate their hard work and are honored that they chose us as their subject.”

School administrators will choose the recipient of the scholarship according to Wegmans’ Who We Are Values: Making a Difference in the Community, Empowerment, Respect, Caring, and High Standards.

The presentation marks the second time the grocer has offered scholarship money to a New England school. Before Wegmans opened its first store in region – in Northborough -- last October, it gave $500 scholarship certificates to seven local high school students.

Family-owned Wegmans operates 80 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
