Wegmans Upgrading SureCheck Food Safety System

Wegmans Food Markets will upgrade its existing SureCheck food safety system from PARTech Inc., a subsidiary of PAR Technology Corp., to PARTech’s SureCheck Advantage Solution in all 95 of the grocer’s stores.

The fully integrated SureCheck Advantage platform, with its automated temperature probe, bar code scanner and RFID infrared temperature readers, will replace the Motorola MC-55 handheld devices used with the earlier version of PAR's Temperature Measuring Device (TMD).

SureCheck, which was first implemented at Wegmans in November 2015, replaced the paper-and-pencil recording methods the grocer was using and provided better food safety reporting consistency across all stores. Wegmans decided to upgrade to SureCheck Advantage because of its all-in-one unit capabilities. The upgrade will deploy 885 SureCheck Advantage units across Wegmans’ stores.

“PAR’s SureCheck Advantage is a key tool in the day-to-day operation of Wegmans foodservice,” said Tom Adams, food safety coordinator at Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans. “SureCheck Advantage has provided a 15 percent-to-25 percent improvement in operational efficiency, and the cloud-based online reporting saves time and money from our original paper recording process.”

“Wegmans leads the grocery industry with exemplary culture, which in turn drives exceptional core values,” said John W. Sammon III, SVP and general manager at New Hartford, N.Y.-based ParTech, Inc. “The adoption of the SureCheck Advantage is yet another example of their unending commitment to quality and food safety. PAR's all-in-one solution enhances the culture of excellence for Wegmans employees and customers.”

Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, family-owned Wegmans operates stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.
