Weis Expands Partnership With Crowley Foods

As of this week, Crowley Foods’ Binghamton, N.Y., plant will process, supply and deliver Weis Quality Milk to the Sunbury, Pa.-based grocer 12 New York stores. Under the agreement, Crowley, which is owned by Lynnfield, Mass.-based HP Hood LLC, will produce eight Weis Quality Milk SKUs in plastic gallons and half-gallons containing homogenized, fat-free, 1 percent and 2 percent milk and deliver them directly to locations in Broome County, located in the state’s Southern Tier, and Elmira.

“As a locally focused retailer, we’re strong believers in buying high-quality local products that are also local favorites -- Crowley Foods fits the bill on both counts,” noted Weis Markets regional VP Brad Kochenour. “Our new agreement will also ensure that milk processed in the morning will be on the shelves of our Southern Tier stores later that afternoon.”

“Crowley employees take a great deal of pride in the quality of products they manufacture,” added Don Fox, manager of the Binghamton plant, which has been in operation since 1915, currently employs around 100 people and has a processing capability of 25 million gallons. The facility produces dairy items under the Crowley and Hood brands, as well as private label offerings.

The companies’ representatives revealed the agreement at the Weis Markets Conklin Street store in Binghamton, which is located near the plant.

Other locally produced items carried in Weis Markets’ Southern Tier stores include Kreher Eggs; Felix Roma Bread; DiRenzo Bread; Battaglini Italian Bread; Heidelberg Bread; Hoffman's Franks/Polish Sausage/Liverwrust; Denunzio Jar Polish Sausage; Pasqualichio Seasoned Beef, Chicken, Pork and Chicken; Cortese Pizza; Nirchis Pizza; Jim Roma Bread; Salamida Spiedie Sauce; Lupos Spiedie Sauce and Meats; and Side Hill Goats Milk.

Weis Markets operates 164 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
