Weis Launches Paws for Pets Promo

Weis Markets has launched its fifth annual Paws for Pets program that collects monetary donations, pet food and supplies for local animal shelters and rescue organizations.

“When we began this program four years ago, we were hopeful Weis Market customers would help support this initiative. And, every year we are in awe of the outpouring and big response this program receives,” said Dennis Curtin, director of public relations for the Sunbury, Pa.-based supermarket chain. “Unfortunately, there are too many abandoned and abused animals and the wonderful shelters that take them in need our support. We’re happy to do what we can and we appreciate our customers’ generosity.”

Throughout the month of May, Weis Market customers may contribute to Paws For Pets by purchasing pet care and general merchandise items on shelters' wish lists, such as cat food, dog food, kitty litter, collars, leashes, toys, treats, pet shampoos, nail clippers, pet brushes, combs, food and water bowls, dishwashing liquid, bleach, mops and brooms, towels and powder-free latex gloves. After customers purchase the items they would like to donate, they can place them in a specially marked collection cart near the checkout.

In addition to supplies, customers are able to make monetary contributions with the purchase of vouchers for $1, $3 or $5, or Paws for Pets bracelets for $1. All proceeds donated will go to local shelters.

Last year's Paws for Pets campaign raised $191,000.
