WinCo Adding North Texas Stores, Distribution Center

WinCo Foods is building a distribution center in Denton, Texas, as well as two stores: one in Denton and another in Arlington, Texas, The Dallas Morning News reported.

At 830,000 square feet, the distribution center is big enough to supply 25 to 35 WinCo stores, which generally sell about $1.5 million worth of inventory a week each. As for the stores, the Denton location will open July 28 in the Rayzor Ranch shopping center at Interstate 35 and University Drive, while the Arlington location will open sometime in 2016 at the southwest corner of Interstate 20 and Cooper.

WinCo is actively searching the region for new store sites, a company representative said. It first entered the Texas market in 2014 with locations in McKinney and Fort Worth, with five following since in Duncanville, Lewisville, North Richland Hills, Garland and Fort Worth. The two new stores are the retailer's eighth and ninth in the state.

Based in Boise, Idaho, WinCo Foods is an employee-owned company that operates as a regional discount supermarket company. It currently employs more than 15,000 people and operates 101 stores and five distribution centers in Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California and Oregon,
