Winn-Dixie, Harris Teeter Give Generously

The Winn-Dixie Foundation is contributing $1.5 million to 123 nonprofit organizations across five Southeast states. The groups offer a broad range of critical community services in the areas of hunger relief, help for needy women and children, education, and health, among others.

Winn Dixie is not only committed to serving our communities as a business and employer, but [also] to do our part to make our communities stronger,” said Mary Kellmanson, marketing SVP of the Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer, which is a subsidiary of Bi-Lo Holding in Mauldin, S.C., and president of the Winn-Dixie Foundation.

Last year, the foundation helped fund 112 locally based community programs.

In related news, Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter revealed that it has contributed more than $9.1 million -- an increase of nearly $2 million from last year -- to various nonprofit organizations in its marketing areas, in addition to donating 3.7 million pounds of food to its Feeding America partner agencies. As well as establishing corporate giving programs to aid hunger relief, youth sports organizations, United Way and disaster relief, Harris Teeter supports schools through its “Together in Education” program.
