FreshDirect Rolls Out Thanksgiving Online Store

Internet grocer FreshDirect has launched its Thanksgiving online store, which this year will be exclusively selling Heritage turkeys from Epicurean Farms. Hailing from Bourbon County, Ky., the Bourbon Red turkeys are raised humanely and fed an all-vegetable diet with no antibiotics.

Additionally, grocer will offer the popular Martha Stewart Young Turkey. Raised in a sustainable, responsible manner and containing no added artificial flavors, the bird was produced in partnership with Fredericksburg, Pa.-based turkey grower Hain Pure Protein.

Among the other holiday selections featured at the store are turduckens, deboned turkeys (raised without antibiotics) stuffed with boneless chicken breasts (also raised without antibiotics) and boneless Muscovy duck breasts, and five new affordable dinner packages, with sizes feeding between two and 18 people, and including turkey, side dishes and dessert options.
"Our delicious Thanksgiving meals conveniently limit the stress of preparing a large feast and allow families to appreciate the holiday while enjoying our delicious cuisine," said Monica Woo, chief marketing officer at Long Island City, N.Y.-based FreshDirect of the dinner packages, which feed guests for a little as $17 a head and can now be preordered for deliveries on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24.

And to help those less fortunate, FreshDirect and longtime partner City Harvest will donate two turkeys to needy families for each large-sized Thanksgiving meal sold. Customers are also able to add a $5 to $25 donation at checkout to City Harvest, and on Nov. 16, FreshDirect will hand out 100 turkeys to families at the Jan Hus Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. The company will additionally deliver a truckload of produce to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair, N.J., to help feed more than 500 residents at Thanksgiving.

According to FreshDirect CEO and chairman Richard Braddock, “We will also partner with many other organizations to donate turkeys, produce and high-quality foods to enable all communities to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.”

FreshDirect’s service area now includes most of Manhattan, locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx, and parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and Westchester and Nassau counties.
