Sam’s Club to Provide Health Screenings, Guidance

Consumers can increase the likelihood of sticking to their New Year’s resolutions to improve their health by visiting Sam’s Club, which will offer such free health solutions as in-club health screenings and smoking cessation consultations.

On Saturday, Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., The Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart division will offer screenings for several key vital health metrics, including total cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI), while supplies last. The total cholesterol and glucose tests are available only to the first 100 members per club, and additional restrictions on some tests apply in certain states. The screenings are valued at up to $100.

During the screenings, Sam’s Club pharmacies will have on hand free samples of health-related products, among them Atkins low-carb snack and meal replacement bars and Emergen-C vitamin supplement mixes.

Also this month, Sam’s Club members and pharmacy patients that want to stop smoking can take advantage of the “Make This Your ONE Place to Quit” program. The program includes one-on-one consultations with a smoking cessation advisor at Sam’s Club Pharmacies. In collaboration with Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based  GlaxoSmithKline, trained Sam’s Club pharmacists will provide a free smoking cessation consultation, work with participants on a personal quit plan, give out a resource guide and offer products to help quit smoking, including Nicorette White Ice Mint chewing gum and NicoDerm CQ Step 1 Patch.

“At Sam’s Club, we provide important health solutions like free in-club health screenings and new smoking cessation resources to simplify the process of realizing personal health goals,” noted Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP, Sam’s Club health and wellness. “Starting the New Year with Sam’s Club health-and-wellness services is a great first step in determining the health regimen that best fits one's lifestyle and budget for the coming year.”

Further, in honor of American Heart Month in February, Sam’s Club’s next free health screenings will focus on heart health.

Sam’s Club, the nation’s eighth largest retailer, has more than 47 million members in clubs across the United States, as well as in Brazil, China and Mexico.
