Sam’s Club Salutes Military Members

To pay tribute to active and retired U.S. military personnel, Sam’s Club has permanently added a Military Membership to its slate of membership offerings. When military personnel, active or retired; spouses; and civilian military employees join or renew as Advantage Members ($40) or Advantage Plus Members ($100), the warehouse club retailer will provide a $15 Sam’s Club gift card per primary membership.

“From the members of the Greatest Generation who fought in World War II to the servicemen and -women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan today, Sam’s Club has a long-standing tradition of supporting our military,” explained Todd Harbaugh, EVP of operations at Sam’s Club, a division of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores, as well as a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Additionally, veterans in need of mobility assistance can get a free cane at Sam’s Club, while supplies last. The annual program from Sam’s Club and Kew Gardens, N.Y.-based AMG Medical, “Hugo Salutes Our Veterans,” will distribute 36,000 free Hugo Folding Canes, which normally retail for $29.99, at all U.S. Sam’s Club locations from Nov. 9 through Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Sam’s Club membership isn’t necessary, although proof of U.S. military service is required to receive a cane.

Each U.S. Sam’s Club location will have 60 canes to give out on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cans will be available at the pharmacy, or, at clubs without pharmacies, at the Member Services Desk.

“As we strive to simplify the holiday season for members in every community we serve, Sam’s Club salutes our military veterans with easier access to quality products and amazing savings,” added Mike Turner, the chain’s SVP of membership.

Sam’s Club offers products and services to more than 47 million members in clubs across the United States, as well as in Brazil, China and Mexico. Members save an average of 30 percent over traditional retailers.
