FMI Honors Missouri’s Dan Shaul with MacManus Award

The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) has named Dan Shaul, director of the Missouri Grocers Association and Missouri Representative for District 113, its 2016 Donald H. MacManus Award recipient. Shaul is recognized for his legislative accomplishments and leadership in public affairs, such as his yearly participation in FMI’s Midwest regional meeting and state issues retreat where his experience has helped shape FMI’s priorities and emerging issues.

“Dan serves the interests of the food retail industry at many levels,” said Leslie Sarasin, FMI president and CEO. “He particularly has his finger on the pulse of his home state as an elected official to the Missouri State General Assembly.”

Shaul pushed legislation that stipulated that the state alone could place bans, fines or fees on any type of bag, and has filed legislation that would reform tax increment financing (TIF) districts as well as advocating for allowing brewers to lease coolers in retail locations.

The award was presented by Sarasin during FMI’s Day in Washington fly-in event on Capitol Hill during a luncheon hosted by the Food Industry Association Executives (FIAE). More than 200 grocers attended the event, at which the National Grocers Association also presented its Association Leadership Award to Tom Woodmansee, president of the North Dakota Grocers Association; Shaul previously won that award in 2012.
