GMDC Names Patrick Spear President

The Global Market Development Center (GMDC) has named Patrick Spear president, effective as of Nov. 1.

Spear succeeds President/CEO Dave McConnell, who will continue to function as CEO for the time being, according to the company.

A 25-year veteran of the consumer and office products industry, Spear began his career in 1987 with BIC Corp., and has also served with Newell Rubbermaid, Mapa Spontex, Identity Group, The Highlands Group, and Mammoth Office Products.

“Patrick’s extensive background in our industry, coupled with his intimate knowledge of GMDC as both a supplier member and as a past chairman of the General Merchandise Supplier Advisory Board, allows him to hit the ground running in his new role," said Bill Anderson, GMDC board chairman. "His reputation in this industry is stellar and the skill sets and vision he brings to GMDC will be a tremendous asset to the Association."

Spear noted the association's "unique culture and strong member-focus," adding that he's "excited and energized to work with Dave McConnell, our staff and boards and help lead this organization to a very bright future.”

The Global Market Development Center serves general merchandise and health beauty wellness retailers, wholesalers and suppliers.
