NGA Applauds Vote to Overturn Ambush Election Rule

The National Grocers Association (NGA) has applauded the Senate passage of S.J. Res. 8, a resolution of disapproval that would block a proposed National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) rule that allows unions to hold “quickie” ambush elections.

The NLRB’s “Quickie” Ambush Election Rule would shorten the amount of time between the filing of a petition to unionize and the vote from an average of 35 to 40 days to as few as 11 to 15 days.

“Today's vote in the Senate, championed by U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (TN), was an important step to protect employer and employee rights under the National Labor Relations Act,” said Peter Larkin, president and CEO of NGA. “If allowed to go into effect in April, this rule would upset the careful balance between employers and unions by undercutting the fair process for union elections by limiting the time in which an employee can hear from both a union and their employer to make informed decisions on whether to form a union or not. This issue remains a priority for our members, and NGA will continue to work with Congress and support court challenges to ensure employer and employee rights are protected under the National Labor Relations Act.”
