Stan Sorkin Receives NGA Association Leadership Award

The National Grocers Association (NGA) has presented Stan Sorkin with its 10th Annual Association Leadership Award, honoring his dedication and service to the independent supermarket industry.

Sorkin has been the executive director for the Connecticut Food Association since 2007, and has played an important advocacy role on policy issues such as sugary beverage and candy tax, bottle bills and bag fees, paid sick leave and GMO labeling. He also worked to ensure that NGA's 240 member-companies receive severe weather alerts and state-imposed restrictions on trucks during weather events.

Prior to his role as executive director, Sorkin worked for Pathmark Stores, Alpha I Marketing, Food Industry Alliance of New York State and New Jersey Food Council.

"A cornerstone of the food industry for nearly 50 years, I am pleased to recognize Stan for his outstanding leadership and tremendous commitment to the independent supermarket industry collectively in the state of Connecticut and nationwide," said Peter J. Larkin, president/CEO of NGA. "Stan is held in the highest regard by his peers and colleagues in the food industry, his members, and officials throughout the state of Connecticut as a tireless advocate for the independent industry, and therefore it gives me great pleasure to honor Stan with the 2015 NGA Association Leadership Award."
