Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Adopts ReposiTrak Food Safety Platform

Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Co. Inc. has chosen ReposiTrak, a provider of compliance management and track-and-trace food safety solutions exclusively endorsed by FMI and Retailer Owned Food Distributors & Associates (ROFDA), to manage its food safety risk. The company is the sixth ROFDA member to implement the solution.

"With the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) regulations nearing finalization, we want to proactively ensure the safety of our supply chain," explained David Bullard, president and CEO, Bessemer-based Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Co. "ReposiTrak's solution enables us to collect, store and manage our compliance with FSMA-required documentation across our supply chain, and easily respond to FDA requests well within their 24-hour deadline."

Powered by Park City Group's technology, ReposiTrak helps manage regulatory, financial and brand risk related to food safety in the worldwide food supply chain. The internet-based platform consists of two systems: a Compliance Management system that receives, stores and shares documentation, and also includes dashboards and alerts for missing or expired documents, and a Track & Trace system that quickly identifies the supply chain path taken by an item in the event of a product recall. This latter system can lower the risk in the supply chain by identifying backward-chaining sources and forward-chaining recipients of products in close to real time.

Implementation Ahead of FSMA

"Like Sarbanes-Oxley, executives are now personally responsible for their supply chains' compliance with FSMA," noted Randall K. Fields, chairman and CEO of Utah-based Park City Group, a software-as-a-service provider that collaborated with Leavitt Partners, in Salt Lake City, to develop ReposiTrak. "FSMA finalization and regulation enforcement is now less than a year away. Adoption of the ReposiTrak system by yet another wholesaler further supports ROFDA's commitment to manage risk out of the food supply chain."

Last year, ROFDA adopted ReposiTrak's Document Management and Track & Trace components to enhance the safety of food and drugs throughout the supply chains of all 14 of its members.

The mission of Gardendale, Ala.-based ROFDA is to promote and support the retailer-owned distribution segment of the food industry through value-added programs and services, with the aim of servicing independent retail grocers throughout the United States.
