Seaboard Foods to Donate Portion of March Sales to Japan

Seaboard Foods, a top exporter of pork to Japan and Mexico, said it would donate a portion of March pork loin sales up to $50,000 to the Japanese Red Cross for relief programs following the Japan earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

In addition, Seaboard Foods pledged participation in the U.S. Meat Export Federation Japan Relief Program to donate pork products in upcoming months that will address the long-term needs of feeding Japanese families. The company will also double-match employee donations to Japan relief efforts through the Seaboard Matching Gift Program.

"Since this devastating natural disaster, our concerns have been for the safety and well-being of our Japanese business partners and their families," said Rod Brenneman, Seaboard Foods president and CEO. "We recognize they will face many challenges ahead and we're hopeful our support will assist in meeting the current and upcoming needs of our Japanese friends."

Japan imports about 1 billion pounds of U.S. pork annually. Seaboard Foods, an integrated U.S. food company, is a leading exporter of U.S. pork to the country under the Seaboard Farms -- and St. Joe Pork -- brands.
