SpartanNash Pilots New Click-and-Collect Service

SpartanNash will pilot a new comprehensive click-and-collect service in the first quarter of this year.

The new platform, developed in partnership with ecommerce and digital marketing solutions provider Unata, will make its debut at a Family Fare location in the greater Grand Rapids, Mich., area, where the retailer/wholesaler is headquartered. If the project delivers the expected results, Family Fare will roll the program out to an additional 25 stores by the year's end.

SpartanNash already has been offering click-and-collect solutions in its stores, as Dennis Eidson, chairman and CEO of SpartanNash, noted on the company's recent fourth-quarter 2016 earnings call. Eidson said he believes SpartanNash's click-and-collect service is in about nine stores today, but different versions of it currently exist. Learning from the various types, SpartanNash has developed a solution that is more complete, integrating personalized promotions, which will dovetail the ongoing efforts around personalization in SpartanNash's Yes! loyalty program.

“The click-and-collect systems we had gave us a sense of what we needed to do moving forward,” said Dave Staples, president and COO at SpartanNash. “This just takes us to a different level overall in the experience.”
