Supervalu’s Mike Stigers Exec-in-Residence at USC Marshall Program

Mike Stigers, EVP, wholesale and supply chain services for Supervalu, was named the 2017 executive-in-residence for the USC Marshall School of Business Food Industry Executive Program (FIEP). Every year the program selects an executive with rich leadership experience to bring valued insights and inspiration to the program.

Stigers began his career at Safeway in 1974, and during the next 35 years held various executive positions with Safeway, Jons Market and PW Supermarkets. He joined Supervalu in 2011, and today, oversees the wholesaler’s relationship with 1,900 independent retailer across the country as well as being responsible for Supervalu’s logistics, procurement, transportation operations and third-party logistics.

In response to the honor of being appointed executive-in-residence, Stigers said, “I strongly believe that employee education programs are an important key to a company’s success. They help teach essential skills, build confidence and provide leaders with the knowledge to aggressively manage a business through changing times.”

FIEP was established in 1958 and students can attend a 4-day executive program or a semester-long leadership program. Only 35 students are admitted to the leadership program from a range of companies in the food industry and tuition is paid by the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC). (Stigers was named vice president of the WAFC this year.)

The spring session of the FIEP will be held March 13-16 in Los Angeles while the fall session will be held Sept. 18-21. Online registration closes one week before the course begins. More information can be found here.
