    Jiffy Mart Taking Part in PepsiCo’s Dream Machine Recycling

    Program enables customers and employees to earn rewards

    Jiffy Mart is the latest convenience store chain to add PepsiCo’s Dream Machine recycling initiative to its stores. Computerized recycling kiosks will be placed at participating Jiffy Marts, allowing customers and employees to recycle and earn rewards for going green.

    “Currently, we recycle water from our car wash, and last year, we partnered with BG&E for lighting upgrades at our Finksburg and Airpark locations -- which has already shown kilowatt savings of 234,000 annually, equating to 117 tons of coal or 90 tons of carbon dioxide,” said Tom Moser, general manager for Westminster, Md.-based Tevis Oil/Jiffy Mart. "Partnering with PepsiCo and Waste Management, bringing the Dream Machine to our Jiffy Mart locations, will allow us to provide a convenient and rewarding way for our customers, associates and community to help the environment.”

    PepsiCo teamed with Houston-based Waste Management to create the Dream Machine computerized receptacles, which include a Greenopolis-powered personal reward system. Individuals earn points for each bottle or can they recycle and can exchange those points for local discounts on entertainment, travel and dining.

    Additionally, the more items recycled, the more support PepsiCo provides for the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), a national program offering free experiential training in entrepreneurship and small-business management to post-9/11 U.S. veterans with disabilities.

    “Those who recycle in a Dream Machine can earn rewards and help make a real difference for our planet and in the lives of disabled U.S. veterans,” said Jeremy Cage, SVP and head of the Dream Machine Recycling Initiative at Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo.

    Approximately 4,000 Dream Machines have been placed in 40 states so far. The program’s goal is to help increase the U.S. beverage container recycling rate to 50 percent by 2018.
