Kroger Expands Gas Rewards to Dallas-Fort Worth

Shortly after introducing its fuel accumulation program to the greater Houston area in April, Cincinnati-based Kroger is now bringing the initiative to the Dallas-Fort Worth market, which will enable north Texas customers to save up to $1 per gallon at the grocer’s gas stations in the area. The program allows shoppers to redeem 100 to 1,000 fuel points, earned via grocery, prescription and gift card purchases with the Kroger Plus card, during a single fill-up.

“With the success of the fuel accumulation program in other markets, including Houston, it's the perfect time to introduce the gas savings to a greater number of our customers,” noted Bill Breetz, president of the Kroger Southwest Division, which operates 208 stores, 198 pharmacies and 101 gas stations in Texas and Louisiana. “As gas prices continue to climb, more shoppers are feeling the effect. Our new program presents customers with the opportunity to save significantly at a time when many consumers are seeking a price break on gas, especially as many prepare for summer travel and road trips.”

For each 100 points customers amass, they get a 10-cent-per gallon discount up to $1 at Kroger Fuel Centers. 1-2-3 REWARDS MasterCard holders are eligible to receive up to $1.05. For every $100 spent on groceries, excluding alcohol and tobacco, customers earn 100 points. They can also collect points by buying prescriptions and gift cards. For every two prescriptions filled or refilled at a Kroger Pharmacy, including $4 and $10 generic prescription drugs, program participants earn 100 points. When a customer buys a $50 gift card from the Kroger Gift Card Mall for self-use or as a present, the points are doubled and they receive 100 points. For a limited time, through June 21, 2011, shoppers will earn quadruple fuel points when they purchase select gift cards.

If a customer has accumulated 500 points, she receives a 50-cent discount per gallon at Kroger Fuel Centers. If she’s amassed 1,000 points, she wins a $1 savings at the pump. Customers can track their points by viewing the bottoms of their receipts, where their most current balances are printed. They can also check their points balances by registering their Kroger Plus card numbers at www.kroger.com.

Points can be used through the end of the following month in which they are earned. When getting gasoline, a customer will always be offered the biggest discount available based on each month's fuel point totals available in her account.

Additionally, through Kroger's partnership with Houston-based Shell, shoppers can still redeem 100 points to save 10 cents per gallon at more than 400 participating Shell locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
