    Kroger Pink Tag Campaign Raises $137.5K for Breast Cancer Research

    DETROIT-- The Kroger Co.'s division here and participating vendors raised $137,500 during a 2007 pink tag campaign to benefit breast cancer research and awareness at the Detroit-based Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

    DETROIT-- The Kroger Co.'s division here and participating vendors raised $137,500 during a 2007 pink tag campaign to benefit breast cancer research and awareness at the Detroit-based Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

    "Through the dedication of our vendors and purchases by our loyal customers, we are proud to make this significant contribution to such an important cause," said Rick Going, president of Kroger's Michigan division. "The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute is a steadfast organization, and we hope this donation will aid them in their mission to prevent, detect and eradicate breast cancer."

    Throughout the year, Detroit-area Kroger stores invited customers to shop the pink tags to support breast cancer research. Kroger teamed up with breast cancer-supporting brands to offer 1,300 pink-tagged items. When customers purchased the pink-tagged brands or the limited quantity pink shopping bags, Kroger dedicated a portion of the proceeds to the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

    "Kroger's continued generosity to provide resources for cancer research and education is an exceptional example of corporate partnership and their commitment to this community," said Nick Karmanos, Karmanos Cancer Institute's v.p./development.

    Kroger's pink tag campaign is a corporate-wide program that benefits breast cancer awareness and research in participating Kroger markets.
