Kroger Said Eyeing North Texas for Marketplace Format Expansion

CINCINNATI - The Kroger Co. here is said to be cooking up plans to bring its successful combo Marketplace format stores to the hotly competitive Texas market.

Preliminary plans call for the first such store to be located at Custer Rd. and Eldorado Parkway in Frisco, followed by other Lone Star state sites, according to press reports.

Housing groceries, furniture, electronics, linens, dishes and other general merchandise, the 100,000-square-foot Marketplace stores are about twice the size of a traditional Kroger. The nation's top-ranked grocer has some 30 Marketplace stores nationally, including in its home state of Ohio.
