Kroger Said Scouting Real Estate in India

CINCINNATI - The Kroger Co. here is reportedly looking to enter the real estate business in India.

Representatives of the nation's top ranked supermarket chain have already met with several prominent real estate companies in India to discuss joint ventures, according to a report in the Economic Times citing unnamed sources.

The report quoted a source as saying Kroger is mainly interested in jointly developing new commercial projects or buying into existing ones. Kroger's key objective behind entering Indian realty market, according to the report, "is to gain a holistic understanding of the Indian consumer market."
