Kroger Urging Families to Share a Meal on Sept. 24

CINCINNATI - The Kroger Co. here said today it renewed its partnership with the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, in a bid to urge more consumers to participate in Family Day next Monday.

By encouraging families to share a meal together on Sept. 24, Kroger and CASA are aiming to raise awareness about the benefits of eating meals together as a family to promote meaningful conversation between parents and their children, the chain said.

As reported by Progressive Grocer in yesterday's Daily News, research by CASA consistently finds that the more often children eat together with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs.

"Sharing meals together as a family is a simple, powerful and effective tool to help children and teens avoid risky behaviors," said David B. Dillon, Kroger chairman and chief executive. "Family meals are an ideal time to talk with your children and listen to what's on their mind. We support Family Day because building strong, healthy families is at the core of our business."
