May is Mediterranean Diet Month

With the Mediterranean Diet continuing to receive scientific support for its healthfulness, Oldways and the Mediterranean Foods Alliance (MFA) have announced Mediterranean Month to help consumers bring the diet into their daily meals.

“Our Mediterranean Month program brings added focus and attention to Mediterranean ingredients, cooking, menus and lifestyles, making it easy for consumers to put delicious, healthy Mediterranean meals on their family’s table,” said K. Dun Gifford, president of Oldways.

As part of Med Month, Oldways and MFA will feature a variety of consumer programs on their respective Web sites, including a Mediterranean Month Calendar that offers daily tips for following the Mediterranean Diet, such as: “Savor fresh fruit for dessert two or three days this week.”

Other Web features will include a 7-Day Mediterranean Menu — complete with seven days of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, with calorie counts; recipes and pricing information for following the Mediterranean diet on a budget; and details on the Med Diet Recipe Contest. Look for contest rules on the Oldways and MFA Web sites and on The Oldways Table Blog. Participants are invited to create a recipe that uses at least two Mediterranean diet products. (Recipes may be submitted to Adriene Worthington at [email protected].) Winners will be drawn on May 31, 2009, and announced on both Web sites.
