Meijer, Komen Team Up for Breast Cancer Awareness

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Beginning this weekend, Meijer Inc. based here will be the sole retailer to carry the cause-related bottled water products called Water Fight. Meijer is teaming up with Water Fight and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, whose vision is a world without breast cancer.

Water Fight is the brainchild of Grand Rapids restaurateur and entrepreneur Joe Guglielmi (goo-yell-me), and is designed to raise funds for any number of major philanthropic efforts. Water Fight's bottles will be packaged and promoted as charity fundraising promotion, with a percentage of bottle sales going to a charitable cause.

Meijer and Susan G. Komen for the Cure have worked in the past to increase funding and participation at many of the Komen Races for the Cure held within its footprint. A 24-pack of Water Fight will sell for $5.99 with $.50/case going to the Komen organization.

“Combining business with real dollars to help our communities was something we wanted to be a part of," said Stacie Behler, Meijer spokeswoman. "Breast cancer impacts so many of our employees and customers and we were proud to join Komen and Water Fight in providing a creative way for our customers to be a part of the fight."

With over 40 different departments within each store, including pharmacies in all of its locations, Meijer operates 179 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.
