Meijer Recalls Frozen Entrees on Possible Listeria

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer Inc. said it recalled 2,184 pounds of frozen entrees after testing showed possible Listeria contamination.

The retailer said it pulled 12-ounce packages of Discover Cuisine Red Curry Chicken and Jasmine Rice entrees, which it had distributed to stores in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. A company spokesman was quoted as saying that only 21 packages of the potentially contaminated product had been sold, in four states.

A USDA spokeswoman said no illnesses have been reported.

The product was produced by the Canadian-based Discover Cuisine on Oct. 18. It features a "StacPac" cooking system that separates the rice and the chicken, vegetables and sauce, which are then poured on to the rice after it is cooked.

The products have a Canadian establishment number of 302 on the front of the package and "use by" date of Dec. 18, 2008.
