Meijer Said Closing Three Ohio Stores, Opening Other New Sites

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer Inc. here will pull the plug on two of its stores in the Columbus, Ohio area and one in Dayton, amid plans to open two more sites in Central Ohio and one new unit in Dayton.

The company said that the openings and closings are part of a “smart, steady” growth plan, according to local press reports.

Meijer did not respond to requests seeking additional information.

In a local press report, Mark Murray, president, was quoted saying: "Evaluating performance and improving our offerings to customers is something we work on everyday. New stores in Columbus and Dayton, two markets where we are firmly committed, will enhance the Meijer customer experience in central Ohio.”

Meijer operates 181 supercenters throughout Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky.
