SALISBURY, N.C. -- The recipe information kiosks in use at Food Lion's Bloom stores this week hit a milestone as the number of shoppers who have used them for meal planning, price checking, or locating products surpassed 1 million.
There are six kiosks in each of the Food Lion-owned chain’s 52 stores in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The kiosks are supplied by ShoptoCook, Buffalo, N.Y., which also manages the kiosk network.
“Bloom takes the hassle out of shopping and makes it fun and easy,” said Robin Johnson, Bloom’s director of marketing and brand development. “The interactive informational kiosk with its savvy technology allows our guests to find products, select from thousands of recipes, select and get information on wines, print grocery lists, visit the Kids’ Corner for interactive games, plus a host of other options. We have seen increased usage by guests of all ages. The millionth customer documented using the kiosk validates how accepted and valuable a tool it is.”
The kiosks are typically located throughout the supermarket in or near such departments as produce, meat, wine, and organic/natural foods. ShoptoCook, logs about 25,000 interactions per week among Bloom shoppers.
To use the kiosk, shoppers scan the barcode of any meat, seafood, or produce item and are instantly presented with three recipes that use the scanned item. Shoppers can then select a recipe or view additional choices, up to hundreds per cut. They can then print the recipe to use as an ingredient list.
