More A&P Banners Offer Savings for Seniors

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. (A&P) is introducing “Senior Appreciation Mondays,” a new special discount program for seniors, in all Pathmark stores, on April 4. Under the program, customers over the age of 55 will be able to save 5 percent each week on their grocery purchases of more than $30, excluding pharmacy items, milk, tobacco products, beer, wine and spirits. The Montvale, N.J.-based grocer will also debut “Senior Appreciation Tuesdays” with the same eligibility requirements for customers at Superfresh stores in and around Baltimore on April 5, and at all A&P, Food Emporium and remaining Superfresh stores on April 19.

The Senior Appreciation Days are modeled after a similar program already in place at A&P banner Waldbaum’s for shoppers age 55 and older. Waldbaum’s gives eligible shoppers 5 percent off their grocery purchases on Tuesdays, also excluding pharmacy items, milk, tobacco products, beer, wine and spirits.

“Our Senior Appreciation Days are a great benefit for many of our most loyal A&P, Waldbaum’s, Pathmark, Food Emporium and Superfresh customers,” said SVP of marketing John Mortiz. “Customer loyalty programs like these reflect our commitment to turning around our company, in part by enhancing value for our customers as we continue to improve their shopping experience in our stores.”

A&P operates 395 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under the following banners: A&P, Waldbaum’s, Pathmark, Best Cellars, The Food Emporium, Superfresh and Food Basics.
