More Changes at Marsh

Marsh Supermarkets Inc. has announced several key leadership appointments, the latest in the ongoing major changes unfolding at the Indianapolis-based grocer under new president and CEO Joe Kelley.

In the wake of the move revealed earlier this week that Marsh has forged a long-term agreement with C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. to provide procurement and distribution services for all 97 of its supermarkets in Indiana and Ohio, Kelley said the executive leadership changes are designed to strengthen the company’s organization and accelerate sales growth.

“These strategic changes to our executive leadership team will position Marsh to grow our business, better serve our customers and outperform our competition,” said Kelley, who’s also the company’s chairman. “In today’s dynamic and very competitive marketplace, we must continue to differentiate Marsh from our competitors. The team we are putting together at Marsh will help us accomplish that goal.”

The following leadership changes are effective immediately:

- David Siegel, senior VP of merchandising and marketing strategic initiatives, has been promoted to senior VP of sales and merchandising. Siegel will continue to report to Kelley. A search is underway to fill his previous position.
- Bill Buck, a 43-year Marsh veteran, has been promoted to VP and general manager of Marsh’s 27 MainStreet Market stores. Buck will continue to report to Bill Holsworth, Marsh COO.
- Bill Erickson, a 13-year Marsh associate, has been promoted to VP of Marsh Supermarket operations with responsibility for the company’s 70 Marsh stores, including three O’Malia’s Supermarkets. He will continue to report to Holsworth.
- Don Rix, a 32-year Marsh associate, has been promoted to VP of pharmacy, health and beauty care, and general merchandise. Rix will report to Siegel in his new role.

In addition to these promotions, Marsh also welcomes Larry Ritzert as a new member of its management team. Ritzert will serve as VP of meat merchandising, reporting to Siegel. Ritzert brings to his new role 40 years of experience in the meat business, most recently at Price Chopper Supermarkets in New York. Kelley previously served as executive VP at Price Chopper; Siegel was also formerly with Price Chopper.

Marsh operates 70 Marsh stores, including three O’Malia’s Supermarkets and 27 MainStreet Markets in Indiana and Ohio, with 40 Indiana pharmacy locations.
