NACDS Providing Grass-roots Toolkits, Updated Web site, to Increase Retailer Advocacy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) yesterday launched new grass-roots tools for NACDS members and pharmacy advocates to get involved and communicate on behalf of pharmacy to elected officials.

"NACDS member advocacy was a key ingredient in the pharmacy victories achieved in 2007," said NACDS president and c.e.o. Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. "Continuing our grass-roots efforts in 2008 is imperative -- we know the critical issues that we face, we have a united voice, so let's keep speaking. They are listening."

The association gave out grass-roots toolkits to attendees of its Regional Chain Conference, which began Sunday in Bonita Springs, Fla. The kits consist of educational tools to encourage those who would like to get involved in grass-roots advocacy.

In addition, NACDS upgraded various elements of its grass-roots Web site. The refreshed site, NACDS Advocacy Action Center (www.capitolconnect.com/nacds), went live at the end of January and was upgraded to provide a more user-friendly registration process. According to NACDS, in 2007, more than 9,000 individuals throughout the chain pharmacy industry accessed the grass-roots Web site to send 50,000 communications. The new Web site will also enable NACDS to produce more specialized communications while targeting specific lawmakers on various issues.

NACDS also formed a partnership with Pharmacy Times to deliver a series of four free Webinars that address the basics of pharmacy advocacy. Two took place in the fall, and the third Webinar, "Opportunities and Challenges: State Issues Impacting Community Pharmacy," will broadcast Feb. 7.

For more information on previous Webinars or to register for future ones, please visit the "pharmacy" section of the NACDS Web site: http://www.nacds.org/.

NACDS represents retail chain pharmacies and suppliers of products and services to the chain drug industry.
