According to Harris Teeter, although its Norfolk, Va., store on Colonial Avenue was well received by shoppers, the location’s smaller size meant that product offerings were limited. That problem has been rectified with the construction of a new store that at 53,000 square feet offers more than double the space of the older location. Located across the street from the previous store, the new location will open March 9 at 8 a.m.
The new location will be staffed by more than 150 associates and feature an 8,000-square-foot mezzanine, an expanded Farmers Market, an enhanced Fresh Foods Market Deli/Bakery, and a larger HBC area and pharmacy. It will also offer an extensive wine set with a better product assortment than was available previously.
Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter will begin demolition of the older store in mid-April and plans to start construction on a larger parking lot for the new location in June, with a tentative completion date by the close of July 2011.
