NEW Honors Safeway Exec for Diversity Efforts, Support

CHICAGO - The Network of Executive Women here has named James White, s.v.p. of consumer brands for Safeway, Inc., its Outstanding Champion for his efforts last year in driving industry involvement with the trade association and its causes.

NEW will honor White during a reception to be held May 5 in Las Vegas during the FMI show.

"James White has consistently championed the mission of NEW by creating diverse, high-performance work teams, demonstrating the business imperative of inclusion, and leading our industry by example with cutting-edge policies at Purina, Gillette, and now Safeway," said a NEW spokesperson.

According to NEW, White contributed to the launch its new Northern California regional committee and personally encouraged dozens of Safeway colleagues to join the committee and attend the launch event in November 2007. James and his staff also played a "critical" role in the launch of NEW's Executive Leaders Forum last year, the organization said.

NEW has recognized seven people as Outstanding Champions since the organization's founding in 2001, including Judy Spires, c.e.o. of Acme Markets, in 2007; Tom Greco, president of sales for PepsiCo, in 2006; and Linda Dillman, e.v.p. and c.i.o. of Wal-Mart, Jeri Dunn, former senior vice president and c.i.o. of Tyson Foods, and Kay Palmer, c.i.o. and e.v.p. of J.B. Hunt in 2005.
