New Hussmann Web Site Schools Grocers on Sustainability

BRIDGETON, Mo. -- Hussmann Corp. here said it launched a Web site with ideas for retailers who want to lessen their impact on the environment.

Visitors to Hussmann's new "Always*Green" portal will find information on sustainability, including an interactive calculator that shows environmental and financial benefits of various green technologies.

"Customers tell us they want to become more environmentally friendly, but they don't always find it easy to know which choices to make, or how to evaluate the
financial payback," said Praveen Reddy, Hussmann's v.p./marketing.

Retailers can enter basic store information into the calculation tool, which will suggest the best green solutions based on the data and display the potential financial and environmental results of implementing the solutions.

Over the past 10 years, Hussmann has dedicated resources to developing new products that cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce energy use, in some products by over 20 percent.

To continue this effort, Hussmann recently rolled out an Always*Green umbrella sustainability program that has three objectives:
-- Creating a "culture of green" within its organization to leverage ongoing sustainability improvements;
-- Partnering with customers to help them achieve their environmental goals while helping them reduce annual energy costs by up to $115,000 per store.
-- Redoubling efforts to develop new products that will have a significant impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
