New Report Gives CPG Firms Sustainability Ideas

WASHINGTON -- The Associate Member Council (AMC) of the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) has released a report on practices in sustainability from outside the CPG industry, "Case Studies in Sustainability: From the Fields Through the Supply Chain to the Shelf," in support of the association's strategic focus on environmental sustainability. The report features successful examples for CPG companies in this arena.

A case study from KPMG, working with Heineken, shows how the CPG company has successfully integrated sustainability into its overall business processes. CHEP, Inc. offers information on how a shipping method used for years to maximize operational efficiencies also offers significant environmental benefits. Monsanto Co. relates how its technologies have helped urge the adoption of conservation tillage.

"Member companies of GMA are facing a host of challenges and opportunities when it comes to environmental policy," noted GMA s.v.p. industry affairs Stephen Sibert in a statement. "We greatly value the contribution the AMC is making to raise awareness and understanding of this important issue."

The AMC is composed of senior-level executives from top service providers and suppliers to the CPG industry. Its main goal is to help create and facilitate an open dialogue between GMA members on issues germane to the CPG industry.
"Case Studies in Sustainability" is available online at www.gmabrands.com/publications/index.cfm.

The GMA board of directors consists of c.e.o.'s from the association's member companies.
