There’s an app for that: According to research firm NPD Group, mobile phone applications are becoming a common, everyday resource for daily tasks, including finding deals on groceries. Among other findings, NPD’s National Eating Trends study found 25 million Americans use coupon apps every month, with most of those apps used in households with children.
Playing favorites: A new consumer study by Market Force Information reveals that consumers’ favorite grocer is Giant Food, followed closely by ShopRite and Walmart. Rounding out the list of favorite stores: Publix, Costco, Kroger, Aldi and Safeway. Market Force Information based its results by store count, to get a more accurate representation of the industry based on consumer preferences. When consumers were asked which departments within their favorite stores were most important to them, the top three grocery sections were the deli, butcher shop and bakery.
