    NFRA Introduces 2013 Ice Cream & Novelties Promo

    Summer campaign includes retail display contest, giveaway for consumers

    Twenty-four well-known brands will sponsor the National Frozen & Refrigerated Food’s (NFRA) 2013 Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties promotion, which offers a Retail Display Contest, a consumer Coupon & Freezer Giveaway, and resources to help engage shoppers and boost sales. The promotion runs in June and July.

    The contest enables creative retailers to develop merchandising displays during the promotion months and vie for the Golden Penguin Award. Displays must feature sponsoring brands and NFRA point-of-sale materials, as well as direct consumers to NFRA’s Easy Home Meals website and Facebook page to enter the giveaway. Entries are due by Aug. 9. The best 2013 Summer Favorites displays in six regional categories will receive awards at NFRA’s Annual Convention, scheduled for October in San Diego.

    The giveaway offers consumers unique prize opportunities aimed at driving increased traffic to the ice cream and novelty section. Winners are selected every week to receive exclusive manufacturers’ coupons for the sponsoring brands, culminating with a grand-prize drawing for a chest freezer from Hussmann.

    Through many PR and social media outlets, NFRA will promote the giveaway and deliver key messaging about ice cream and novelties on a dedicated site, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube, as well as via NFRA’s Cool Bites consumer e-newsletter. Further, ice cream and novelties will be the subjects of a July television spot from the Mr. Food Test Kitchen that will broadcast to 4 million households. The Mr. Food website and newsletters will provide additional exposure to millions of visitors and subscribers.

    Sponsoring brands for this year’s promotion are Edy’s Slow Churned, Edy’s Fruit Bars, Skinny Cow, Kemps, Lindy’s, Active D’Lites, Front Porch Carolina Churned Ice Cream, Graeter’s, Breyers, Haagen-Dazs, Nestle Drumstick, SnoBlitz, IttiBitz, Fat Boy, Blue Bunny Champ!, Blue Bunny Bomb Pop, Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom, Ciao Bella, Klondike, Popsicle, Magnum, Fruttare, Good Humor, and Ben & Jerry’s.

    Based in Harrisburg, Pa., NFRA is a nonprofit trade association representing all segments of the frozen and refrigerated foods industry. The organization is the sponsor of March Frozen Food Month, June Dairy Month, June/July Ice Cream & Novelties and the October Cool Food for Kids educational outreach program.
