NGA Unveils Member Resource on Food Safety

The National Grocers Association (NGA) has tapped Gale Prince, Stericycle ExpertRECALL food safety strategist and founder of Sage Food Safety, LLC, to provide expert resources on food safety issues to the association and its members.

NGA members will receive exclusive access to Prince's expertise, including members-only webinars on important food safety topics that impact their businesses and customers; up to one hour of complimentary food safety consulting from Sage Food Safety; and access to NGA's “food safety hotline.”

“[Gale’s] expertise will help independent grocers stay on the forefront of important issues that impact consumer safety from farm to table,” said Peter J. Larkin, NGA’s president and CEO. “Importantly, Gale's strong working relationship with regulators, manufacturers, and the retail community compliments NGA's commitment to working collaboratively with others in the food industry on the vitally important issue of food safety."

Prince boasts over 40 years of experience in developing and implementing food safety programs for organizations such as Jewel and Kroger. Other regulations he has worked on include Nutrition Labeling Regulations, Food Warehouse Sanitation Guidelines, Sanitary Food Transportation Guidelines and FDA Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, among others.

As a food safety strategist with Stericycle ExpertRECALL, Prince consults clients on issues including crisis management, food safety, traceability, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and food litigation defense. He is also a senior consular on Food Safety for Hill and Knowlton, a worldwide public relations firm, and is on the faculty at the University of Minnesota - National Center for Food Protection and Defense - Senior Food Systems Analysis as a subject matter expert on food defense research projects for USDA, FDA and the Department of Homeland Security.

The NGA is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry.
