Key Food Debuts New Halsey Traders Market Banner

Key Food Stores Co-Operative Inc. has opened its first-ever Halsey Traders Market location at 245 Malcolm X Boulevard in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, N.Y. To celebrate, the store held a grand-opening celebration on Friday, Oct. 13, featuring local officials; Key Food executives; an appearance by Skeery Jones, of the Z100 Morning Show; live music; and free vendor sampling.

“We’re so proud of all the hard work the Obeid family has put into opening Halsey Traders Market,” said VP of Business Development John Durante. “Customers are going to love the convenience of the shopping experience this store has to offer.”

The 5,000-square-foot store includes a produce department offering a fresh, premium selection, including organic and locally grown items; a deli department with a full line of Boars Head products, as well as fresh salads and catering services; and a center store providing specialty and gourmet items, in addition to craft beers.

“My family has managed businesses in this neighborhood for over 35 years,” noted Juju Obeid, the store’s owner. “We’re excited to continue serving the community and expanding their grocery selection. We’re so thankful to have the support of the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.”

Staten Island, N.Y.-based Key Food Stores consists of more than 240 primarily member-owned and corporate grocery stores, with $2.7 billion in annual sales. In addition to Key Food, the stores operate under various other banners including: Food Universe, The Food Emporium, SuperFresh, and Food Dynasty in all five New York City boroughs, Long Island, upstate New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
