NEW YORK -- Online food purveyor and delivery service FreshDirect, based here, has enlisted the skills of award-winning New York chef Roberto Santibanez in its latest prepared meals venture, a group of new Latino-inspired entrees for its "Fresh Dining" microwave meals line.
Santibanez, who is the culinary director of New York City restaurant Rosa Mexicano, spent six months helping FreshDirect create the Latino meals.
"One of our core goals is to make it easy for our customers to have restaurant-quality meals on the table in a matter of minutes," said Michael Stark, executive chef at FreshDirect, at a press conference on Monday evening.
FreshDirect revealed its first such venture with a chef last fall: "Fresh Dining by Terrance Brennan," a line of Mediterranean-inspired meals. Brennan's New York restaurants are Picholine and Artisanal Fromagerie, and Bistro and Wine Bar.
The "Fresh Dining" meals are steamed in the microwave. They use packaging that features a special valve designed to allow a variety of raw ingredients to be cooked together.
FreshDirect's new line by Rosa Mexicano includes eight proprietary "Fresh Dining" meals, such as Beef Short Rib Enchiladas with Salsa Mestiza & Cactus, and Halibut in Tomatillo Herb Mole with Asparagus & Red Bliss Potatoes; and eight ready-to-grill items.
All meals have been designed exclusively for FreshDirect customers and are currently available for purchase at www.freshdirect.com.
