TORONTO -- Loblaw Co. here launched this week an expanded PC GREEN line as part of its President's Choice private label offering.
The new line includes the PC GREEN Reusable Shopping Bag, which Loblaw called "Canada's Greenest Shopping Bag."
Made from 85 percent post-consumer recycled materials (six 500-milliliter or two-liter plastic beverage bottles), the fully recyclable bag, which at 10 kilograms is twice the size of conventional plastic bag, retails for 99 cents and is expected to last for about 50 shopping trips, whereupon shoppers will be urged to return the bags for re-recycling into more reusable bags.
The sale of the PC GREEN bag is expected to divert at least 1 billion single-use plastic bags from landfill in 2007 alone, according to Loblaws.
Additionally, for each bag or PC GREEN Box shoppers use at a Loblaws store, they receive 50 PC Points when paying for their groceries with their PC Financial MasterCard or bank card. This offer includes all reusable bags and bins, including competitors' reusable bags.
PC GREEN, Canada's only private label range of sustainable products, first launched 20 years ago and features 26 environmentally improved SKUs, among them household cleaners, paper products, and garden and lawn care items.
