MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu Inc. here has reportedly signed a five-year lease for 345,000 square feet of space, to include a full test kitchen for product and recipe development, in the former Best Buy headquarters building in nearby Eden Prairie.

The move follows on the heels of Supervalu's hunt for space to house its merchandising and marketing functions in suburban Minneapolis. The company announced last November it was transplanting 400 merchandising and marketing jobs from Boise, Idaho, the former headquarters of Albertsons, which Supervalu acquired in 2006.

The new space, vacant since 2002 when Best Buy relocated its headquarters to Richfield, Minn., is about a mile from Supervalu's existing headquarters.

The company also said it established a multidisciplinary team to review its future corporate office space needs and develop a long-term facility plan, which could eventually mean an expansion of its existing headquarters as well.

Supervalu is the third largest employer in Minnesota.

In other news, Supervalu sold two more Osco pharmacies to Aurora Health Care, which brings to eight the number of locations Aurora has purchased from the retailer-wholesaler, which earlier this year declared its intent to sell or close the Jewel-Osco stores in southeastern Wisconsin.

Aurora owns and operates roughly 120 for-profit pharmacies throughout its service territory in eastern Wisconsin.
