    NEW STANTON, Pa. -- Three Pittsburgh-area Shop 'n Save supermarkets are testing a new customer incentive program that offers shoppers customized discounts based on past purchase history.

    NEW STANTON, Pa. -- Three Pittsburgh-area Shop 'n Save supermarkets are testing a new customer incentive program that offers shoppers customized discounts based on past purchase history.

    Dubbed "Shop 'n Save Personalized Perks" and powered by San Francisco-based Pay By Touch, the loyalty card-based program provides cardholders with extra discounts on products based on known preferences and established buying habits in a particular store. In order to activate their targeted discounts, shoppers will scan their Shop 'n Save Perks Card at a kiosk as they enter the store to retrieve a list of personalized offers, and then scan the card at check-out to redeem them.

    The service's sophisticated targeting engine "learns" from every shopping trip to generate a new set of unique rewards for each shopper, each week.

    "With Shop 'n Save Personalized Perks, shoppers can get extra savings on their favorite products right as they walk into the store," said Bill Lipsky, director of merchandising for Shop 'n Save, a subsidiary of Minneapolis-based Supervalu.

    The three Pittsburgh-area stores are the nation's first Supervalu locations to use the program, which is currently being piloted in Shop 'n Save stores in Penn Hills, Holiday Park and Gibsonia, Pa.

    "Shop 'n Save is committed to the community, to working families and to its loyal customers," said John Rogers, founder, chairman and c.e.o. of Pay By Touch, whose core business is in fingerprint technology for payment processing and other kinds of authentication.

    Shop 'n Save currently operates 70+ supermarkets within Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia.
