JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. said on Friday that the first two Wellspot walk-in clinics are open for business in Jacksonville, Fla. stores, as part of a strategy to open additional clinics in Winn-Dixie stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana within the next year.
Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. revealed last year it was partnering with Birmingham, Alabama-based Wellspot Medical Clinics, Inc. to open the free-standing, walk-in medical clinics.
A third Wellspot Medical Clinic will open in a Winn-Dixie store in MacClenny, Fla. in the upcoming weeks, Winn-Dixie said on Friday.
The clinics are designed to offer shoppers fast, convenient, and cost-effective treatment for, and prevention of, common medical conditions.
In other Winn-Dixie news, officials said last week the retailer will receive $18.9 million after settling a dispute with the Internal Revenue Service.
At one time, the IRS had filed claims against Winn-Dixie seeking about $87 million.
Additional refunds could be coming from the IRS, according to published reports.
Winn-Dixie also expects to resolve a dispute with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that should result in another $2.6 million refund. The dispute was over payments made to the Medicare program.
