MINNEAPOLIS - Supervalu and Coca-Cola have joined forces to serve up a $95,000 donation to several African American non-profit organizations nationwide. The donation is part of the national retailer's and beverage giant's "Taste of Black History" celebrations - a month-long salute honoring the preservation of African American history and culture.

As part of the celebration, select Supervalu banner store locations, including Acme, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco and Shaw's, have a wide variety of store activities planned. Customers eager for a "taste" of black history can enjoy a number of product sampling and cooking demonstrations featuring the largest number of African American manufacturers and distributors since the program's inception six years ago.

Select Supervalu suppliers' products will also be featured in weekly store ads and accompanied by in-store signage so customers can identify specific "Taste of Black History" items.

"Black History Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the many significant contributions African Americans have made to our country," said Dave Pylipow, Supervalu's e.v.p./human resources. "African American entrepreneurs have played a significant role in this country's economic success, which is why Supervalu is proud to celebrate their accomplishments by showcasing the products of our African American business partners in our stores. We are equally privileged to join Coca-Cola in making donations to African American organizations committed to the preservation of African American history and culture in our country."

Since 2002, Supervalu's Black History Month partnership with Coca-Cola has resulted in donations totaling nearly $100,000 annually and has benefited organizations with ties to the African American community.
